Oceania hops, due to specific breeding and special climatic conditions, can surprise us even in the age of plenty. Those species descend from the familiar European ancestors, but definitely shine with new colors on the other side of the world. Motueka, one of the most famous New Zealand hops, descends from the well-know Saaz hops. It has that familiar noble floral profile, but at the same time pleasant tones of gooseberries, grapes, citrus and stone fruits shine through.
We put our hands on the freshest Motueka of 2020 harvest and used it in abundance in our beloved crushable hazy pale ale Mroiva. This is truly a special beer: the fine hop profile matches the creamy texture perfectly, and the smell of far away meadows, garden berries and subtle hints of grapefruit fill you up with a great strength to fight for freedom. Ka Mate!
