Well, we dreamed about this for a very long time. At the very beginning of unusually warm September, the Malanka brewery team went on an unforgettable trip to the very south of Belarus, to the only hop farm in the country. Sun-drenched expanses of southern fields, endless emerald hop plantations, crystal clear and soft water of local rivers and lakes – all this made us come up with the idea of a beer to utilize this fresh hops, untouched by industrial ovens or refrigerators. Smarahd is a German-style pilsner, the color of a straw glass, distinctly bitter and endlessly aromatic, filled with aromas of flowery meadows and juicy cones of brewing emeralds, balanced but not banal, refined but familiar and so so close to heart. We lagered our pils at low temperatures just long enough to preserve the precious flavors of the freshest Magnum and Tettnanger hops, handpicked by the farm staff with a little help from us and rushed to the brewery as fast as possible. And, of course, we really hope that you will enjoy spending time with a chilled glass of this unique beer for Belarusian brewing scene.
